Serial entrepreneur Sabeer Bhatia is now back with his latest venture JaxtrSMS, seeking to create a revolution in the way we message. Known for his highly relevant and innovative startups, this time, according to Sabeer, he was inspired by his wife, who wanted to switch from a Blackberry to an Iphone, but was hesitant to do so, citing apprehensions about leaving the BBM network. Highly ambitious Sabeer saw an exciting proposition in this, which took the form of JaxtrSMS. A part of the Jaxtr platform, JaxtrSMS enables users to send SMSs to any mobile phone in the world, free of cost. Yes, I said any mobile, free of cost, and unlimited number of messages.
What makes JaxtrSMS different from Whatsapp is the fact that it does not require the sofware to be installed on the recipient’s device, or the recipient to be connected to the internet. JaxtrSMS is a multi platform application, working acros iOS, Android, Symbian, BlackberryOS, and Windows phones alike. What makes Jaxtr different from other messaging startups is the fact that it does not require any special applications to receive messages and that it works across the globe. JaxtrSMS has massive potential, especially in a country like India where messaging is viral. 160by2 and way2sms have proved that users do not mind advertisements along with their messages.
However, it is unclear what strategy Jaxtr takes to overcome the TRAI regulations with respect to timing of messages and delivery of messages to NDNC registered numbers. No doubt, JaxtrSMS will not have such an easy journey as Sabeer’s other ventures.
